I think my life can be separated in two periods. Life before
dry shampoo, and life after. You see my hair is a royal pain in the arse. It
gets greasy but reacts to being washed everyday by drying out and breaking off.
Plus when it is short I have to blow dry and straighten it every time I wash it
lest I look like I tumbled out of the 80’s. Sexy no? So I apply copious amounts
of dry shampoo instead which allows me to get away with washing every 2 or 3
days thus saving me and my hair from a lot of heart ache.
I’m a Batiste Brunette disciple and normally go through 1 or
two cans a month. There are only two things wrong with it. Firstly the cans
tend to run out pretty quickly and secondly the aerosol delivery is neither
particularly travel friendly or eco friendly. So I got suckered into buying the
LUSH alternative. You get 115g for £6.50 which I suspect will last be several
life times. I mean really, I’ve been using this for about a month and it looks
brand new. The main ingredient is cornflower surprisingly (why did I buy it
then, I have cornflower in my kitchen?)but it does have a lovely citrus
fragrance to it which makes it feel less like I’m baking on my head.
I will cut to the chase. Yes this works. Pretty damn well
actually. It absorbs all the oiliness brilliantly and even in my very dark hair
doesn’t leave any white patches. But I still don’t like it. It’s the delivery
method. You either shake the bottle over your roots or onto your hands then
apply it to your hair. Either way it’s a complete mess. I end up covered in it!
I have to use it before I get dressed otherwise my clothes look like they’ve
been in a fight with a baker. It takes ages to evenly distribute it through my
hair.
I’m sorry to say but for everyday ease of use I’m a little
bit addicted to the aerosol can of Batiste. I just don’t have time to faff
about with this bottle! It’s a great idea in principle and the product itself
is good. I’m just too cackhanded to master it L
*Bought by me*

That's the thing... The Batiste spray version has it's problems, but any other options are just far too messy! Haha, thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteDoes the Batiste Brunette have a scent? I use the Batiste Original at the moment but the white on my dark hair looks awful!
I don't recall a strong scent from the Brunette (I'm not at home right now so can't sniff I'm afraid!) but if it does have one it's certainly not as strong as the original or scented versions. I hated the white effect from the original on my dark hair. The Brunette version is much better in my opinion! Ages ago I did a little comparison that you might find useful http://eyeliningobsessions.blogspot.com/2011/01/battle-of-dry-shampoos-comparison.html x
DeleteI was thinking when I started reading your post, how does it work without being able to spray it on. Now I see it doesn't. I think i'll be sticking with my Baptiste dry shampoo then too. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're right, it just doesn't. Maybe it works better applying it directly to your hands then rubbing it in but I'm weird and don't like the feeling of flour on my hands! It's just too messy to be worth the hassle for me x
Deleteyay - i love dry shampoo too... my hair is super flat. i wash mine every night. but sometimes by the other morning, my hair is dead flat. the only dry shampoo in local drugstore is batiste, and i use that to volumise my hair...
ReplyDeletemaybe you can transfer the Lush cornflower :P to a pepper dispenser? i have my schwarzkopf osis+ dust it in a mini sprinkler type bottle..
after your review, i may needa get a bottle of Lush later ;)
cheers,
jacq
Transferring it to another container is a good idea actually. I will have to give it ago! Hehe the last thing I need in my hair is more volume. I wouldn't fit through doors if it got any bigger! x
DeleteHi Claire,
ReplyDeleteHave you considered using it in something like this?
http://www.amazon.com/Zink-Color-Retractable-Refillable-Compartment/dp/B005IS8ZOM/ref=sr_1_1?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1339833283&sr=1-1&keywords=refillable+powder+brush
I just bought one at a local outlet store for anound $4 USD after I started using:
http://www.amazon.com/Jonathan-Product-Rootine-Shampoo-Powder/dp/B00375UJWE/ref=sr_1_4?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1339833400&sr=1-4&keywords=jonathan+dry+shampoo
I got this on clearance at Ulta. Its BRILLANT to carry in my purse in place of the aerosol can I have been hauling around & FAR more stealthy for a quick fix in the ladies room too.
I had been mulling making my own Dry Shampoo once I run out of the Jonathan product (like it alot - not willing to pay the full price though...), but your review makes me think I should make a trip over to LUSH instead of what would likely be a very messy DIY project!
That looks like a really good idea Spritely! The brush looks like it would really help with the application mess. I think making your own would be a fun experiment but for the moment I'm just going to keep it quick and easy with my Batiste. I'm sending this bottle down to my sister in the hope she has better luck that me! Thanks for the links :) x
