I quite liked my last almost favourites post. Even if it did
involve a worrying amount of self loathing. So here we go with another round of
winning products (a la Mr Sheen), miserable things and something that left me
stone cold (but not necessarily sober).
FAIL – Vaseline Crème Brulée Lip Therapy. Mmmm one of my favourite
puddings combined with a beauty staple. I normally get on quite well with
petroleum jelly type lip balms although I know some don’t like them. This
smells and tastes a little bit chemically/ too heavily perfumed though. And
even worse I find it slightly drying. This was so hyped up last year but I just
don’t like it. Sorry!
WIN - Make Up Forever HD Foundation. When the gorgeous Tracy
sent me this along with the Matt Velvet + foundation I had thought, based on
online reviews, that my oily bits would loathe this. But no. I love it. High
coverage which is my preference, semi matte finish, lasts through work. Fab!
FAIL – The service at my local MAC counter. I’m sure I just
got them on an off day and yes it was busy but I popped in to back to MAC some
things and it just did not go down well. I wanted to pick up a bottle of their
cleanse off oil too but the girl just thrust the lipstick at me and walked off
without asking if I wanted anything else. The whole experience was about as
pleasant and friendly as erm.... an unpleasant unfriendly thing.
WIN – Taupe. Yawn all you like. I’ve been working silly
hours of late and leaving the house for work at the sort of time I used to
stagger in from a night out at uni. Elaborate eye looks have gone out of the
window and I’m settling for a one shadow sweep across the lids before running
out of the door. No other shade works as well for this as a gorgeous Taupe.
MEH – I’ve been curious about the new foam/ mousse style
foundations from the likes of Revlon and Maybelline. I finally tried out the
tester of the Revlon Photo Ready Airbrush Mousse foundation and it was
REVOLTING. It looked pretty cool, all foamy and weird on my hand. But when I
touched it it felt like snail goo. Disgusting, slimy and just not at all
appealing. Thank goodness for testers. That’s some pennies saved!
Please do let me know in the comments whether or not you are
interested in favourites type posts. Or more interestingly, let me know what’s
been rocking your world or leaving you bitterly disappointed lately x

Love MUFE HD it is my holy grail foundation
ReplyDeleteIt's completely gorgeous! x
Deletegreat post! alongside seeing favourites i do like seeing what people havent got on with!
ReplyDeleteThank you Victoria! I think it's always helpful to see what over people don't recommend too x
DeleteI love these posts :)
ReplyDeleteJust lately I've become a big fan of One Shadow Looks, with Mac Sable/Club/All that Glitters or Bare Study paint pot, with only mascara. Easy.
Glad you like this kind of post :-) I really need to use more of my shadows but a sweep and go look is all I have time for! x
DeleteI too am feeling the taupe love. Me. Who despises neutrals and everything they stand for. But they're so easy to put on in the mornings!
ReplyDeleteHehehe what do they stand for I wonder? :p I feel they have their place but on a weekend I prefer my brights x
DeleteThat's disappointing to hear about your MAC counter experience. I'm going to be eligble for B2MAC soon so hmmm...
ReplyDeleteI think we're on the same wavelength about taupe Claire. I just did a post featuring my entire taupe eyeshadow collection earlier this week!!
I think it's just my local counter as the girls at the Edinburgh counter have always been fantastic. Ooh off to check out that post now! x
DeleteI've tried the Maybelline mousse foundation and it was similarly weird and just no. I've not tried the Creme Bulee Vaseline, because Urban Decay put me off the whole burnt sugar scent (smell) with their lip products, but I love the original one and the Rosy Lips one.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I enjoy these kind of posts. :)
I would stick with your usual versions of Vaseline if I were you. Do not like the Creme Brulee version at all. It's disappointing to hear the Maybelline version is icky too. It seems like an interesting concept and I do love a good gimmick! x
DeleteI hate hate, hate those moussey foundations from Maybelline and Revlon, its all gimmicks and advertising but not much substance :( I am really enjoying the new Sleek eyeliners ooh la liners I think they are called. They are amazing and waterproof and as I know you like your eyeliners you should really check them out :) And yes I like these posts.
ReplyDeleteI like a good gimmick (just for novelty value. I'm easily amused) but only if it actually works. These just seem like form over function. Oooh I will have to keep my eyes peeled for the Sleek liners. Thanks for the recommendations! x
DeleteI'm definitely a taupe fan too!
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of us are :-) Such an easy shade to wear x
DeleteLove this kind of posts! You should definitely write more of them :) I have to say my most recent fail was when I spent quite a bit on a Clinique Tinted Moisturizer - I'd looked it up online and everyone that I found recommended it - maybe they were payed for it or maybe my skin is wonky, because it just does not set..ever! My skin just feels sticky for hours! It was my first tinted moisturizer but the experience hasn't made me excited to try others :/ But a definite win is the Max Factor False Lash Fusion Mascara :)
ReplyDeleteI love these posts! Sometimes it is nice to read about several products in one post :)
ReplyDeleteI hate cosmetics that feel like snail goo too :(
spray foam/mousse foundations. when will they realise no one likes them?
ReplyDeleteit feels crap, it dispenses too much product, you can't tell how much product there is left in there.
