Random Cosmetic Orientated Ramblings.

I thought it might be interesting (or not, whatever) to share a few of my cosmetic quirks and (more interestingly) to see if you have any yourselves to post in the comments. So here we go, 5 strange cosmetic facts about me:

1.       I apply my makeup in a very set order (it appeals to my obsessive compulsive tendencies). When applying my foundation I start with my nose, then my right cheek, chin, left cheek, forehead and finally blend down my neck. I NEVER deviate from this. Mad? Yes. But I’m told that’s part of my charm *ahem*.

2.       In the same vein I also do my eye makeup in an odd order. Eyeshadow primer goes on first but then I have to do my brows before I do my actual eye makeup. Because I just do ok?!

3.       I have never smiled to do my blush. I just never have. It didn’t occur to me to, I can see where my cheek bones are! But when I started reading blogs/ watching youtube everyone said you should. Now of course people say you shouldn’t as it drags your cheek down. Whatever, I’ve never seen the point.

4.       I do not like the corpse lips look. I just don’t. I like nudes, just not concealer “where does my face end and my lips begin” nudes. I don’t think it looks good. (Please don’t hate me if it’s your favourite look... Each to their own etc).

5.       I didn’t really start wearing makeup until I was in my 20’s. I’m making up for lost time now!!

So come on then, don’t be shy. What odd cosmetic related oddities do you have to share?

  1. Yeah, I have weird little habits like that too. I always put my eye makeup on first in the morning, then I have breakfast and then do the rest. The logic (?) behind it is that once I've eaten I brush my teeth, so I would wash some of the foundation off around my mouth. Lipstick/lipgloss goes on last of course. :)

    1. Makes sense to me! I tend to put my sunscreen on then go for my breakfast to give it time to sink in on my oily bits. Then brush my teeth and so my makeup afterwards x

  2. It makes sense to me that you do your eyeshadow primer, and then brows before the rest of eye makeup. You gotta give the primer some time to get "settled in". ;)

    1. That does make sense actually, I wish I could claim I was thinking that logically when I developed my 'system' though :p x

  3. Definitely with you on number 4.
The rest, I have no set routine at all and make it up as I go.
Apart from mascara, I didn't really wear much make up until I was about 20 too, which kind of coincides with the Mac shop opening in Liverpool where I was living...

    1. Haha I've heard plenty of people refer to MAC as a 'gateway drug' x

  4. I do the same thing-eye primer then brows! I like to think that the primer is setting in that time. Gives me comfort. :)

  5. I always make the scariest face when I put on my mascara and eyeliner! Kind of like Ash in Army of Darkness when he opens the wrong Necronomicon.

And I only apply lipstick once a day - in the morning. It all wears off by my second coffee at 11am, so most people think I don't wear lipstick at all, even though I consider it my signature makeup look. My face just feels so greasy by midday that I can't bear to add more slimy things to it. I sometimes try to brush my teeth and wash my face/reapply makeup right after lunch at work, as that's the only way to carry my look into the afternoon. And as soon as I come home, I change into PJ's and wash off whatever makeup remains.

    1. Hehe I think everyone has a 'mascara face of doom'. It's not a good look on anyone! I'm a blot and powder fiend to try and keep the oil at bay. I will literally use blotting paper every hour otherwise my nose just devours my foundation x

  6. I have a weird makeup routine too! Foundation first, concealer. Then prime my eyes, do my eyebrows - gotta let that primer dry. I then curl lashes and apply mascara. Apply blush, then eyeshadow . Last thing I do is my eyeliner :) That's because I still make a mess when applying mascara and the eyeliner can hide it.

I used to smile when I do my blush, but I know by now where I need to apply blush without smiling.

    1. I've started doing blush before eyeshadow too! I just use a cotton bud to clear up any mascara blobs but your way sounds practical! x

  7. I absolutely agree with the last three. I don't understand why people want to look as though they need a coroner to help them with their makeup. Just stumbled across your blog, can't wait to read more of it!

And to the anonymous commenter -- I also only apply my lip colour once a day; I never remember to reapply, but I keep buying more lip things! Glad I'm not alone :)

    1. Thank you :-) Hope you like the blog! I do try and reapply my lip products but it depends which office I'm in that day. If it's an open plan office I feel a bit daft sat there with my mirror and lippie out, especially as the people I work with don't usually wear makeup themselves x
