Bobbi Brown Lengthening and Waterproof Mascara Review

My tube of Benefit BadGal was past it's sell by date and I didn't fancy buying another tube of the same mascara. Partly because I need a mascara to hold a curl and it just didn't for me and partly because were would be the fun in buying the same thing over and over again? So in my recent eBay haul I parted with some pennies (surprisingly few) for some Bobbi Brown mascara.

The key word for me was lengthening. I have lots and lots of dark, thick lashes so I steer clear of volumising formulas as they make me look like I have one glued together super lash. My lashes are quite short though and poker straight so in a perfect world my mascara would make them long and curly. Health warning: The following pictures are of my naked eyes. No makeup (except mascara in the later ones). I apologies for any stomach upset this may cause.
No make up at all! Eek!

Does this mascara achieve the dream? Well it certainly lengthens! The formula is thick and gloopy which although this is probably what creates the lengthening effect can have the dangerous side effect of trailing from the end of the brush onto your face if you aren't paying attention. This is a real problem as it really is very waterproof .... I ended up with a trail across my nose yesterday and had to take of my foundation there to remove it. See?

The brush is a nice size, not too big and unwieldy but not small and fiddly either. I also found it to be not so much clumpy but sticky. I did have to brush through my lashes after using it to separate them more so than I did with BadGal but once I did this I LOVED the effect. My lashes certainly were longer, and a lovely deep black and the mascara stayed put all day without running or flaking. It did hold the curl much better than BadGal. Ignore the mascara on my skin. I was sleepy...
Pre- brush through. Post-brush through

If you were prepared to put the time into brushing through your lashes after every coat it would be very easy to achieve a very dramatic look after 2 coats. I found it essential to brush through them though and if you're in a hurry this could be a pain. All in all I am happy with this buy and I will continue to use it but I will probably try something else rather than repurchasing straight away.
